Summary
At the cross, Christian’s burden falls into the sepulchre. Three Shining Ones declare forgiveness, clothe and mark him, and give him a sealed roll. He warns sleeping and shortcut-taking travellers, then climbs Difficulty. Sleeping in an arbour costs him the roll; after fear sends him backward, he remembers the loss, retraces his steps, and recovers it.
Watchful explains that the lions before Palace Beautiful are chained. Inside, Discretion, Piety, Prudence, and Charity examine Christian’s story, struggles, motives, and concern for his family, then welcome him. He rests, studies records, sees Immanuel’s Land, and receives armour. His hosts guide him down the steep hill and supply bread, wine, and raisins.
