Reading boundary Start: Sydney Carton paused in the street, not quite decided where to go. Stop after: he breathed a blessing towards it, and a Farewell.

Carton has only the hours before his nine o’clock meeting at Tellson’s, and he uses them to make himself visible in Saint Antoine. His sobriety and repeated insistence on careful thought mark a departure from his former habits.

Carton tests assumptions by visiting familiar places, listening carefully, and giving practical instructions, while keeping his larger design private.
