After surviving the valleys, Christian catches up with Faithful, another traveller from the City of Destruction. Their conversation compares trials rather than assuming that every pilgrim meets the same ones.
Much of the section tests speech against conduct. New figures give competing accounts of knowledge, repentance, and sincerity, making evidence beyond fluent words especially important.
