The narrator returns in a new dream to the country through which Christian travelled. There he seeks news of the wife and children Christian left in the City of Destruction and hears how the city now speaks of the once-mocked pilgrim.
The focus shifts to Christiana as grief makes her reconsider her former refusal to go with her husband. Her private conviction and her neighbours’ reactions reveal sharply different ideas about danger, duty, and hope.
